About The Book
Erick Hansford was the envy of everyone in town for his heroics on the football field and in the Vietnam war. Deep down inside, however, he knew he wasn't the same person his peers worshipped and made him out to be. Erick's search to find true fulfillment soon made him realize that the answers to the big game of life resided within himself and the relationships he formed with others along the way. Although Erick's quest for self-worth and happiness presented him with a daunting task, he wouldn't quit. He had no choice if he were to live.
Growing up in the 1960s, Erick Hansford was a celebrated high school quarterback wanted by every major college in the country. His peers wanted to be like him and share in the rewards that his celebrity status brought him, rewards often filled with female companionship and media awe. In the beginning Erick fell for the fame hook, line and sinker, but he could never quite fill the void his parents punctured in his soul.
Erick's father used his celebrity status to promote his own business and it often left Erick feeling angry and with an emotional hole no amount of touchdown passes could fill. Although Erick believed that romance was the antidote for his ills, the woman that he loved belonged to another man. Desperate and determined to find lasting happiness - unlike the fleeting cheers and idolization he received in sports and upon his return from Vietnam - this novel is the story of Erick's journey replete with all the perils of life. People Erick thought were his friends soon told him politics was the perfect venue after returning home from war, but after diving into those waters he found himself swimming in a sea of sharks.
Erick eventually found that his answers to the big game of life resided within himself. Even when he became a national hero after escaping a POW camp in Vietnam, Erick thought the winds had turned in his favor, but the baggage he carried from childhood continued to weigh him down and take him through an emotional minefield. Despite this, Erick always remained determined to make it to the end of his journey - and he often had no choice, if he were to live.
